Jonathan's first game of the winter ball season was today. He started and played 2 innings at first, pitched the next two innings, sat out an inning, and caught the last two innings.
For his first at-bat on the 90 ft. bases, he hit a 2 RBI double deep into left field. He nearly beat out a throw from short on his second at bat, and hit one through the infield for his third at bat.
He combined with the pitcher to put out the potential baserunners in the first, before Peyton (the starting pitcher) got into a little trouble in the second with walks.
When Jon took the mound, he struck out 2, I think, walked 2, and 2 runs scored on a dropped ball to the center fielder. He did not throw his change up at all today, but threw about a dozen knuckleballs. (His change up is his usual third-strike pitch.)
He did pretty well catching (hasn't played there in over two years) . . . except for the time he was laughing too hard to throw the kid out at third! (In all fairness, all players on both teams were laughing--including the kid himself--on this play, which was a headfirst dive, not slide, into 3rd base, and there were some pretty big dramatics on the play. I think the kid may have taken acting lessons.)
